How much do flowers cost in Montevideo? The short answer is that it depends, and that is not a way of dodging the question. Two bouquets of the same size can have very different prices depending on which flowers they contain, where those flowers come from, what time of year you buy them and how they are put together. In this guide we explain what sits behind the price of a bouquet, why it changes around dates like Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day, and how to get more out of your budget. Current prices for every bouquet are always shown in our catalog, so here we will focus on what drives them.

What is behind the price of a bouquet

When you look at a bouquet you see flowers and paper. But the final price usually adds up several layers:

  • The flower itself: what it costs to buy from the supplier or the market, which changes with the variety, the stem length and the time of year.
  • Waste: flowers are a living product. Some arrive bruised, some do not open well and some are not sold in time. Every florist works with a share that gets thrown away, and that is part of the cost.
  • Conditioning: cleaning stems, removing leaves, hydrating the flowers and letting them rest before arranging. It is invisible work, but it is what makes the bouquet last longer at home.
  • Arranging: the florist’s time and skill in combining colours, heights and textures.
  • Materials: paper, ribbon, greenery, a water base, a box or a vase.
  • Delivery: getting the bouquet to the door in good shape, on the day and in the slot you chose.

So comparing only “how many flowers it has” is not always fair. A bouquet with fewer stems but fresher, better-chosen flowers can last twice as long.

Flower type: not all flowers cost the same

Each flower has its own price range, and there are differences within the same flower too:

  • Roses: the most requested and the most variable. A long-stemmed rose with a large head does not cost the same as a short-stemmed one. Roses in unusual colours or garden-style roses usually sit above the classics. If you are curious about what each colour means, see our guide to rose colours.
  • Peonies, ranunculus and tulips: they have short seasons and are often imported, so they tend to be among the most expensive flowers of the year.
  • Orchids: a potted orchid is a plant that, well cared for, lasts weeks or months. Its price is spread over much more time than a bouquet’s.
  • Sunflowers, chrysanthemums, daisies, alstroemerias and carnations: generally more affordable and they give plenty of volume. Combined well, they make cheerful, generous bouquets.
  • Greenery: eucalyptus, pittosporum and other foliage add shape and volume without raising the price much.

Season, origin and peak dates

Three factors move the price through the year.

The season. When a flower is in season there is more supply, it arrives fresher and its price is usually more reasonable. Out of season, the same flower comes from a greenhouse or another country. In Uruguay spring runs from September to November, summer from December to February, autumn from March to May and winter from June to August, so what is plentiful in October is not the same as in July.

The origin. Some of the flowers sold in Uruguay are grown in the country and some are imported. Many florist roses in the region tend to come from Ecuador or Colombia, and some bulb flowers or short-season flowers may come from further away, depending on the supplier. An imported flower adds freight, cold chain and paperwork, and that shows in the price.

Peak dates. On a few days of the year demand multiplies:

  • Valentine’s Day (14 February): red roses take centre stage and this is when they rise the most. See our ideas for Valentine’s Day flowers.
  • Mother’s Day (second Sunday of May in Uruguay): many bouquets are ordered at once and delivery slots fill up quickly. We have a page for Mother’s Day flowers.
  • 21 September: yellow flowers have their big day.
  • End of the year: holidays, corporate gifts and gatherings.

On these dates, ordering a few days in advance secures you more flower options and the time slot you prefer.

Size, wrapping and delivery

Size. In our catalog bouquets come in sizes S, M and L. The difference goes beyond looks: a larger size has more stems, more greenery and more arranging time. For a small gesture or a visit, a well-chosen S is usually enough; for a big celebration, an L makes more of an impression.

Wrapping. Kraft paper, coloured paper, a box or a vase: each option changes the cost and also how the gift looks. A vase adds to the price, but it saves the recipient from hunting for somewhere to put the flowers. You can add a handwritten card with your message.

Delivery. We deliver across all of Montevideo, on the day you choose and in a time slot: 8–12, 12–16 or 16–20. Orders are taken from 8:00 to 20:00. Delivery conditions are explained on the flower delivery in Montevideo page.

How to get more for your budget

A few ideas to make your bouquet look better without overspending:

  1. Choose seasonal flowers. They arrive fresher, last longer and go further. Because we work with seasonal flowers, the mix may vary slightly depending on what comes in that day, and that is part of the charm.
  2. One flower type in quantity. A bouquet of sunflowers or of single-colour tulips usually makes more impact than a mix of many varieties with a few stems of each.
  3. Put the flowers before the wrapping. On a tight budget, more flowers in simple paper beats a few flowers in an elaborate box.
  4. Order ahead on peak dates. You avoid missing out on the flower you wanted and on your slot.
  5. Tell the florist who it is for. With a couple of details (the occasion, the colours they like) we can make something very personal in any size.
  6. If you buy flowers often, consider a subscription. With the flower subscription you get a weekly, biweekly or monthly bouquet in size S, M or L, plus a vase and pruning shears as a gift.
  7. Look after the bouquet. Cutting stems at an angle, changing the water and keeping it away from sun and ripe fruit extends its life a lot.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a bouquet cost in Montevideo?
It depends on the flower type, the season, the size and the arrangement. A small bouquet of seasonal flowers is not comparable to a large one of imported roses. Current prices for every bouquet, in sizes S, M and L, are in our catalog.
Why are flowers more expensive on Valentine's Day and Mother's Day?
Because demand spikes over a few days and suppliers usually raise the price of the most requested flowers, especially red roses. Ordering ahead gives you more choice of flowers and delivery slots.
Are seasonal flowers cheaper?
Generally yes, or at least they go further: when a flower is in season there is more supply and it usually arrives fresher. Out-of-season flowers come from greenhouses or abroad, which adds cost.
How can I pay for a bouquet at Klumba Flores?
You can pay with Mercado Pago, bank transfer, cash, foreign cards or banks, and crypto. Handy if you are sending flowers from another country.
