When someone loses a loved one, words often fall short. Sympathy flowers are a quiet way to be there: they say “we are here” without asking for anything in return. At Klumba Flores we prepare understated bouquets to send in Montevideo to the family’s home or to the place of the service, with a card handwritten with your message.
Which flowers to choose for condolences
At times like these, simple is best. Sympathy bouquets are usually made with:
- White flowers: roses, tulips, lisianthus or lilies. White is associated with peace and respect.
- Soft tones: creams, greens and a muted lilac, for a serene bouquet that does not feel cold.
- Plenty of foliage: greenery brings calm and a natural feel.
There is no need for a large or showy bouquet. If you want to know what each flower is associated with, read the guide to flower names and their meaning or, if you are thinking of roses, the one on the meaning of rose colours.
Where to send the flowers
There are two usual options, and both are appropriate:
- To the funeral service or wake: the bouquet accompanies the family during the farewell. Give the address, the name of the deceased or the family, and a contact phone number.
- To the family’s home: many people prefer to send flowers a few days later, when the visits slow down and support is even more appreciated.
We deliver across all of Montevideo on the day you choose, in slots of 8–12, 12–16 or 16–20. If the service time is tight, order early and let us know in the order. The recipient can be someone other than the buyer: the courier contacts them to arrange the delivery discreetly.
What to write on the card
We write the card by hand with the text you leave us. It does not have to be long; what matters is that it is sincere. Some ideas:
- “Thinking of you with all our love at this time.”
- “We will always remember [name]. A big hug to the whole family.”
- “With our deepest sympathy.” And your name or your group’s.
- If the flowers come from a group, such as colleagues, sign on behalf of everyone so the family knows who they are from.
Being there afterwards too
Grief does not end with the farewell. Some people choose to send a second bouquet weeks later, on a meaningful date or simply when they feel the family needs it. Another option is a plant, such as an orchid, which stays in the home far longer than a bouquet and does not need much care. To help the flowers last, the recipient can cut the stems at an angle, change the water every two days and keep the vase away from direct sun and heating.
Sizes and presentation
We work with three sizes: S, M and L. An S bouquet is a personal, discreet gesture; M suits a home or a room; L is appropriate when a group or a company is sending. We use seasonal flowers, so the mix may vary slightly, always in the tones you chose.
If you are outside Uruguay, you can order in Spanish, English or Russian and pay with a card or transfer from a foreign bank, or with crypto. We also accept Mercado Pago, bank transfer and cash. More about areas and times on flower delivery in Montevideo.
